Journey Reflection, Blog 10 (THe Post and The Herald

Over the last four weeks you have been serving as a reading and writing intern for The Journey, ISAAC Summer Academy Magazine. As readers and writers you have explored many ideas, issues, and experiences that are typical among the middle school journey.

At the beginning of your journey this summer, we asked you to respond to the following essential questions;

What is a journey?
What can I learn form the journey's of others?
What can other's or I gain from sharing from sharing my own journey?

Now, that we have come to the end of our Summer Academy Journey we'd like you to respond to these question's again.

Take time to reflect on all the experiences you have had this summer at ISAAC Summer Academy 2010. Experiences may include classroom activities such as the stories and articles you read, writing experiments you participated in, afternoon activities, field trips, math projects, etc.

1. Make a list of all the things you've done on your reflection handout.

2.Then, review your list and circle 3 or 4 of your favorite readings, writing assignments, math activities, or afternoon activities.

3. Finally, write about your journey through summer academy, what you have learned from others and what others can learn from what you have gained this summer. Be sure to use specific detail when writing your reflection. (you may use the answer frame on the reflection handout to help write your reflection.

We all split in groups. My next journey was the african art group and we had to read a story about her heritage and what there language. Also we had to this dance for the african art and it was fun learning new thing. Then my next journey was fishing and how we learn not to put are hand next to the hook and we had to catch fish that was twelve inches and we didn't. But we did catch fishes and there where purges. 2. Over the summer I have loved the activities at the SEA program. One of my favorites was soccer with Mr.F. I learned a lot about the fundamentals of soccer and had a great time. Another fun activity was the field trip to ocean beach. All the students got the freedom of walking around by ourselves and the adults weren't all uptight the entire time. One thing that could've improved was the trip to the Mystic Art Center. I didn't like it because it wasn't very exciting. I don't really like art though so that's just my opinion. One thing I'm looking forward to is going to Lake Compounce. Brianne M.

  9. In Lacrosse I learned that there is a circle and in the circle is the goal. When you step in the circle and make a shot and you scored it doesn't count as a point because you have to shoot outside of the circle to make a shot if you make a shot outside of the goal you make a shot and you score a goal.

In Soccer I learned in soccer you can't get so close to the goal because if you do that is illegal to do that in soccer but the goalie can come out of the goal and you can't kick the ball hard when your near the goalie.

In Canoeing I learned that the person in the back steers and he has the long paddle the middle person paddles with a short paddle and the person in the front paddles with the short paddle too. LEON B.

  13. During my journey through summer academy I went to Shelter island, Hopeville pond state park, and I got to do a week of flag football. My trip to Shelter island was very fun because it was just the girls and we got to go on a cool ferry ride. 19. This summer I played lacrosse the first week. It was very fun and I learned that I liked and was good at the sport. I scored 5 times in a row on Mr. Howes with a squirt gun being sprayed in my face. I think I'm going to play lacrosse next year.
I also went canoeing at Bluff Point in Groton where I learned more about how to canoe like how to spin around in a circle really fast. It was a fun experience and I got to know some of the new sixth graders better.
And tomorrow I'm going to Lake Compounce with some of the new friends I have made at camp. I'm really excited for tomorrow!

  22. During the SEA academy, I enjoyed many different activities. I enjoyed Hopeville Pond and I loved sail;ing. I also went to OCEAN BEACH. While I was sailing, i learned that it was a true team effort. Not one person can drive and steer the boat (unless you're really good). These are some of the activities that I enjoyed the most because I was never bored and tired.

  24. The journey I took this summer at the Isaac Summer Program was learning, but still having fun. The way we did this was in the begining part of the day we would have math and Languege arts. In math, we were making a poster and I made Donald Duck. In Languege arts we do different things everyday. After that we would have lunch and activities that we chose. My favorite afternoon activity was sailing. It is so much fun to go sailing. One day when it was too windy to sail, they let us jump of the dock and go swimming. I did and it was a lot of fun. Also, every friday we would go an a field trip. We would go to places like Ocean Beach, Mystic Arts Centre, canoeing, Fort Trumbull, and places like that. My favorite field trip was sailing in Shelter Island. We took an hour and a half long ferry to New York and then we took another ferry to the island were we went sailing. Isaac summer academy was sooo much fun and I was glad that I came. - Anandah H.

  25. My journey through this camp was fascinating. i could wait for the next day to creep to my door step. i learned new things made new friends and lived a life everyone should life. I remember the time with Mr.s Katy there were many good time i have had with Mr.s Katy but the best was when i found out her last name i would yell all day, she the best (so is Ms Rachael ). I will never forget capsizing in the sailing program falling back into a dark liquid abyss i thought i would drown i had no trust in the life jackets but rest assure they kept me afloat. This summer school was great i can't wait for tomorrow i will miss almost every one here. My most frightening part of summer school was when i was hiding in Mr. s Lafrance car away from the dogs. I had good times

  27. WOW!! I had a great time at this summer academy we did a lot of activities or as I like to call them journeys. My favorite journey was soccer I have always loved soccer in many ways, I loved how Mr.Ferassi was our teacher, I loved how we HAD FUN!!! I learned from other journeys that people like different stuff and their good at it. For example charee she is excellent at basket ball and so is tim. I learned that people have a good time doing what they love and thats never going to stop them. I saw during soccer were getting frustrated but they never gave up. I had trouble at sailing but I never gave up and as I got used to it and I had a good time. *BRITT*=)

  29. during the summer academy We went canoeing, to the beach and many other places. I gained more knowledge in math class and I think others can learn from it now. the Anime teacher MrLee taught me a lot about drawing and that drawing takes patience. For the most part it was pretty cool here. While on my journey I learned how to sail correctly. Others can learn how to sail from my journey.

  31. What i have learned throw out this summer academy is that you should always try your best at everything because later in life. I also learned that once you start something you must finish it so that your not just wasting your time in life. What others can learn from what i have gained in this program is that you should never do something you don't want to do you should always be sure on what you want to do in your life even if it takes you courage.I really liked the outdoor adventure it was really fun because we got to have fun, learn how to survive ahaha ,and we also learned how to turn something bad into something good.
